eSAY, a software company based in Salford, has won a £100,000 contract from water giant United Utilities to help stop leaks.
`Pinpoint' technology - which monitors and reports leaking mains - will be rolled out across the whole of the north west following a successful trial in Greater Manchester.
Pinpoint used on hand-held PDA devices enabled with Global Positioning System (GPS) allows engineers to file reports of leaks and defects from the field.
